I'm the new webmaster for a professional association site, and their current administrator has been working with dot5hosting maybe for years and probably has a special deal with them, so he won't let me switch hosting providers. So I'm stuck here with dot5hosting wich is the worst hosting I ever had the experience to work with.

For example, the ftp connection supports only 80 simultaneous users and most of the day all the slots are occupied, so I cannot work with the site until after midnight or so. And that's not all with this, they limit the ftp connection of a single IP address to 4 simultaneous connections... but their ftp server won't close the connections after you log off, so after four uses, I get block for the rest of the day and part of the next one. So the only thing I have left to keep working with is their awfully bad file manager in vDeck. I cannot create php, css or other files directly, you first have to make a html or txt file, then rename it, then open it and work with it. But the response time of the file manager is also terrible slow, so if you would code a dynamic page and make final adjustments in, say, four hours, using their file manager you need almost two whole days!!

The server is configured so all php pages using sessions put the PHPSESSID number in the url, so you get all sort of different versions of the same pages in search engines, and sometimes that may count as spamming, and is not your fault but your host's. You have to do a lot of tweaking with .htaccess and php functions to try to remove that so it won't show on Google links, for example.

Their support, oh well, everybody already said it: is of the worst kind. I have several sites hosted with icdsoft.com and webmasters.com and their support team respond to inquires within minutes and they immediatly find you a solution. The guys at dot5hosting don't know what they're doing, don't know how to configure their servers, don't respond the support tickets and when they do, is after a day or two. But even then, they don't fix anything. I have been complaining about the ftp problems and they keep promising they will fix it in 24 hours, and it has been a week now and I'm getting frustrated with the finishing of my site.

To give you an idea of their lack of attention, I'll tell you that there's a big message on the main control panel page that says that they will be having a "scheduled service outage from approximately 10pm PST on 2/24 to 4am PST on 2/25", what's wrong with this? Well, at the time of this writing is 3/22... a month later and the message still there! And to also give you and idea of their careless configuration, my control panel page of vdeck also has a message that states that I have ran out of space and bandwidth, but the meter (and the reality) states that I'm using less than 1% of the resources! Oh, and the control panel is a little jewel by itself: many times you just can't log in, it keeps loading, and loading, and loading, and nothing.

Right now I'm trying to get into my control panel but I cannot log in, the server stopped responding. I want to backup my database because I don't think it's secure with them, I feel that in any moment I would loose all my hard work there, so I have to be ready when this happen.

I cannot switch hosts because as I said, I'm just the webmaster. The administrator of the site won't change hosts for something only he knows. But you can do something about it if you were unfortunately enough to crossing paths with them and are considering them.

My advice: avoid Dot5hosting at all costs. You'll be glad you did.

I am trying to move my domain after being hosted for over 6 months. What I am finding is they don't want to let the domain go. But I OWN IT! They require a support ticket to unlock the domain, but they don't actually ever do it. I would NEVER recommend them for ANY reason.

In a world with nothing than bad new, here a positive note. I never experienced any malfunctions at dot5. We started our relationship a little slow, but after 1 mail I could start building my site. Since it's on line, everything went smooth.

I am pleased to write this review. I have been trying to buy a domain with Dot5Hosting.... Here are the reasons I rate this hosting solution 1/10 !! Maybe they have a good price or good technical specs, but I never been able to register.. And at the end I was just discussed about their unprofesionnal staff.... There it is :

1) I have never had any news from them after buying my domain
2) I had to go chat with the guys online (at least 3 times) to finally have them to sent me an e-mail to ask me to send copies of my credit card
3) They asked me to send pictures of my credit card throught regular (not crypted) mail. When I told them this was an unsafe practice, they said it was for my own security !!!!! Seriously.... How professionnal is this ???????
4) After taking maybe an hour to explain them that I wanted to send them an encrypted file with all the information included, I sent them the e-mail and they just could not RECEIVE IT !!! I AM 100% my e-mail services work properly... Them I did it again, sent the e-mail while talking to the online operator to make sure I do everything properly... The e-mail just didn't went through... I just couldn't imagine if I ever had a problem in the futur and wanted support, I would have taken hours and hoursor even days to explain/contact them !!!!

So , please check make sure you secure your stuff when buying from them. They seem to have really unsafe bussness practicles !!!!! Makes me even wonder if they secure their client information........

I tried to use the cheapest plan ( 1 year, 5$/month)... And I lost at least 10 hours contacting them to arrange everything.... NOT WORTH THE PRICE AT ALL !!!!

I've just been taken for 60 bucks without what they claim a 30 full refund policy. Now I'll have to probagbly eat it and go on my way. Any suggestions?
Paid for membership 9/9/05 No progress or return emails.
